How To Clean The Kitchen Appliances? – The Easy Way

How To Clean Your Refrigerator

The refrigerator is the most hardworking appliance in your kitchen…. It runs 24/7, 365 days a year! You should clean them once in every week.

Wipe the outer surface of the refrigerator with a wet cloth to remove dry food debris.

Wipe the inner surfaces with any mild detergent and remove food spills and spots. Use your vacuum cleaner, with the brush attachment, to vacuum the coils at the back of the refrigerator at least once or twice a year to keep your refrigerator in fine condition.

This is a painful, but necessary, task. One must keep the freezer clean of smells and odors! We often face a build up of ice inside the freezer over time.

How To Clean Your Freezer

You need to clean your freezer thoroughly at least twice a year. Just turn off the power to the freezer, take everything out and allow the freezer to warm up to room temperature. Defrost it and wipe the surfaces with a cloth soaked in mild detergent to clean them.

How To Clean Your Mixer

The mixer (or mixie) is the workhorse of most Indian kitchens! From grinding spices, to whipping up purees and juices, or mixing cake batter, your mixer is your trusted helpmate.

Lemon peel can be used to clean the mixer jars to get rid of odors. So next time when you grind ginger-garlic paste, rub the inside of the jar with lemon peel…and let it rest for 15-20 minutes before you wash, dry and re-use.

You can use a mixture of baking powder and vinegar (or plain water). Rub the inside with the mixture and let it rest for 15-20 minutes before you rinse it in water. It will help you get rid of odors, and remove stains and spots caused by spices, fruits or vegetables.

How To Clean A Microwave

For cleaning your microwave oven, take a bowl of water, mix a little vinegar in it, and heat it for 2 minutes in the microwave – and keep it inside for 15-20 minutes thereafter. Then, just scrub out and remove loosened debris and hardened lumps with a damp cloth.

Before cleaning your microwave oven, read the safety precautions in the manual.

How To Clean Your Washing Machine

Clean the internal drum of the washer once a week with a damp cloth to remove soapy residue, dirt and threads from its surface.

Clean the filter periodically to keep the flow of water smooth.

After you are done with washing and drying the clothes each time, keep the machine door open to let moisture evaporate.

How To Clean Your Air Conditioner

Deep clean your air conditioner annually. Turn off the power to the unit and you can use a garden hose to spray the coils. You could try a toothbrush also to clean the dirt stuck in cracks and crevices. A blower or a vacuum cleaner works wonders in cleaning the coils and filters.

Washing the removable filter once a week or fortnight keeps the machine at peak performance! You can immediately feel the difference in the “throw” of the cold air.

Once a year, do hire if you can a professional air conditioner repairman or cleaning service to give your machines a thorough cleaning.
